First Presbyterian Church is a growing, innovative community of faith. At Skaneateles we enjoy things being done well, and delight in children being part of the worship of God. We seek experiences that challenge our reality to expand. This is a very real people, exploring the Christian faith in a variety of circumstances. Our Mission is to make the resources of the church available to all those searching, wanting to receive.
Worship begins in silence with the sound of water, as everything of the last week is poured out in order that we might be fed, challenged and serve. In prayer, poetry, psalms, music and art we are touched emotionally and spiritually. The preacher speaks directly to us, and we are invited to join in serving.
Mission is both local, through: Presbyterian Manor (a low-density residence for well seniors), the Food Pantry, Youth fellowships and Skaneateles Festival; tangible through Soles4Souls, HabitatforHumanity, knitting caps and mittens for the Rescue Mission and a local school, Attire for Hire clothing program; as well as being International through the John Dau Foundation and Duk Lost Boys Clinic of S. Sudan.
Music is a gift to God and the community, as Dr. Crawford Thoburn, Professor Emeritus of Wells College, directs our +25 voice Chancel Choir, accompanied by Karen Hindenlang with our forty rank Casavant Pipe Organ, Susan Grady directs our four Hand Bell Ensembles and Carol Vedder our Children's Choir.
Spiritual Nurture, led by Parish Associate Rev. Debra Thomas, includes Christian education and an embracing of questions and search to go ever deeper in what we believe.
