Summary of Leadership Team meeting on November 13, 2014

The Presbytery’s Leadership Team held its monthly meeting on November 13 at Pebble Hill Church.  The following are among the items that were discussed at the meeting…

The final report and recommendation from the Great Commission Task Force was presented to and considered by the Leadership Team.  Their final recommendation is as follows:

Therefore, The Great Commission Task Force recommends to the Leadership Team to equally divide the endowment portion of $325,000 among the congregations in the Cayuga-Syracuse Presbytery with the suggestion that congregations may want to review the inspirational resources of mission projects from other congregations that have previously been successful in their quest to fulfill the Great Commission.

A motion was made to receive this recommendation, with thanks to the members of the Task Force, and to include this as part of a broader conversation with the whole Presbytery.

The Committee on Ministry Work Group recommended, and the Leadership Team approved, the call of First United Church of East Syracuse to teaching elder Deb Thomas to serve as their pastor, part-time, beginning January 4, 2015.  Also, COM reported that new forms for pastoral calls, interim pastor agreements, and temporary pastoral agreements were approved and are posted on the Presbytery website.

Human Resources reported on the completion of the annual performance review of the Stated Clerk/Communicator.

The Leadership Team approved a request for monies from the Benevolent Care Grant Fund for $1,000 from Health Tapestry.  The money will be used to provide funds for low-income clients who are in need.  Mark Peters reported that a total of $2,800 has been disbursed so far this year from this fund.

The Leadership Team decided that its regular meetings normally will be held on the third Thursday of each month, from 5:00-7:00 p.m.  There will be no December meeting, so the next meeting will be January 15.

After discussion, it was decided to have a Presbytery gathering on December 2 to provide opportunity for people to discuss issues related to the overall finances of the Presbytery and of our congregations.  Information will be available at that meeting that recaps the per capita apportionment, the 2015 terms of call, and the recommendation of the Great Commission Task Force.
