The Presbytery’s Leadership Team held its monthly meeting on October 23 at Robinson Elmwood United Church in Syracuse.  The following are among the items that were discussed at the meeting…

The Leadership Team considered a request that our Presbytery sign on as a concurring presbytery to an overture from Hudson River Presbytery regarding divesting from fossil fuels. After discussion, the Leadership Team declined to concur.

The LT voted, with regret, to accept the resignations of Dan DeBrucker from the Leadership Team and Mario Bolivar as minister commissioner to the 223rd General Assembly (2018).

A draft position description for the new Stated Clerk was discussed and approved. The Leadership Team then met with elder Larry Beasley, who was being presented as a candidate for Stated Clerk. After a wonderful discussion and time of sharing, the Leadership Team voted to present elder Beasley to the Presbytery on November 4 for election to serve as the Stated Clerk, effective January 1, 2018, to serve part-time (10 hours per week), for one year.

A flow-chart outlining a new proposed Presbytery structure and staffing was discussed. Plans were developed to discuss this during the Café Conversations at the November 4 Presbytery meeting.

The financial review document of our 2016 books was presented. Also, the proposed 2018 budget was presented for consideration. This will be presented to the Presbytery for consideration and adoption on November 4. The recommended per capita assessment was proposed to be $35.22, a reduction from the 2017 figure of $37.75.

The New Worshiping Communities Work Group will hold its first meeting on November 7 at 7:00 p.m. at Isaiah’s Table.

The Leadership Team approved the following recommendations from the Ministry Work Group:

  1. Approved the contract between the Session of First Pres. Church in Baldwinsville and the Rev. Monica Styron to serve as Interim Pastor, beginning September 10, 2017.
  2. Approved the Rev. Styron for membership in our Presbytery, pending her transfer from the Presbytery of West Virginia.
  3. Approved the call of First Pres. Church in King Ferry to the Rev. Daniel McCollister, to serve as Pastor, beginning September 1, 2017.
  4. Approved a 2.2% increase in the Minimum Terms of Call for 2018, and pulpit supply remunerations for 2018 of $130 for one service and $200 for two services, plus mileage at the IRS rate.

Mario Bolivar is working with the Clickdriven Media Group on the development of a new website for the Presbytery.

Moderator Shawn Reyburn reported on his experiences at the recent New Moderators’ Conference and Mid Council Leaders’ Conference that were held in Louisville.

Rebecca Wind, Garrett Anderson, and Linda Russell attended the Crossroads Anti-Racism Training that was held on Saturday, October 21 in Rochester.

Linda Russell attended the inaugural meeting of the new Peace Network for Korea which was held recently at Stony Point Center. The GA Stated Clerk is taking a delegation to Korea (October 31 – November 8) in response to the issues raised by the approval of our overture to the 222nd General Assembly (2016).

The next regular meeting of the Leadership Team will be on Thursday, November 30, 2017, beginning at 5:15, at Robinson Elmwood United Church. This is a week later than the normal meeting date due to the Thanksgiving holiday.
