At its regular meeting on November 29, 2018 the Leadership Team approved a position description for a full-time “Resource Presbyter” to serve as a colleague in ministry, facilitate community building, and support the ongoing initiatives of the Presbytery as we continue working with our sister presbyteries in Central New York to discern new possibilities for our missional structure(s).
In May 2018, at its annual meeting held at Vanderkamp Center, Presbytery authorized the Leadership Team to develop a position description for a presbytery leader “using new and previous input from Presbytery members to include such things as serving as the “face” of the Presbytery; building relationships with and among congregations and neighboring presbyteries; being a pastor to pastors; and, working with the Leadership Team, help articulate, model and implement presbytery’s vision and ministry.
During the summer, guided by Rev. Tom Oak, the Visioning for the Future Work Group prepared a first draft. Based on feedback from members of the Leadership Team, and taking into consideration information received this fall from our Synod colleagues who are helping to facilitate a new level of conversation with our CNY sister presbyteries (Northern New York, Utica, and Susquehanna Valley), the position description was adjusted accordingly. Various position titles were considered before the Team chose “Resource Presbyter.” The position is full-time with benefits for a term of service of two years with the possibility for renewal. It should be noted that this position will require the use of additional endowment funds of approximately $30,000 to $40,000 per year as discussed at the August Presbytery meeting.
