“…For I was hungry, and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me…” Matthew 25:35
Presbyterians believe God cares for the well-being of the whole world and calls every follower of Christ to glorify him through lives of service and thanksgiving. Locally, Presbyterians serve in food pantries, volunteer in hospitals and nursing homes, read to children in urban elementary schools, teach language and computer schools to immigrants in the area, help congregations reduce their carbon footprints, and serve on community boards too numerous to count.
Hands-on disaster relief services are provided by Presbyterian Southern Comfort, a Mission & Ministry Team of the Presbytery of Cayuga-Syracuse that was begun following the devastations of Hurricane Katrina to the Gulf States. Since 2006, work groups have gone annually to work in the Gulf region, and recently assisted with flood recovery in the Southern Tier and Mohawk River Valley areas of New York State. For more information, contact Elder Paul Dungey at (716) 512-3385 or email@example.com.
Food Pantries always welcome donations and help! Please contact your local church for more information.

Presbyterians from Central New York also work with and through a number of national organizations:
Church World Service (http://www.churchworldservice.org) works with partners to eradicate hunger and poverty and to promote peace and justice around the world. Following the earthquake that hit Haiti early in 2010, Presbyterians in central New York put together nearly 2,000 hygiene kits for shipment through Church World Service.
Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (http://gamc.pcusa.org/ministries/pda) Presbyterian Disaster Assistance enables congregations and mission partners of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A) to witness to the healing love of Christ through caring for communities adversely affected by crisis and catastrophic events. Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) is the emergency and refugee program of the Presbyterian Church U.S.A.
Presbyterian Hunger Program - (http://gamc.pcusa.org/ministries/hunger/) The Presbyterian Hunger Program (PHP) works with congregations and partners around the globe to alleviate hunger and eliminate its causes. To achieve this ambitious mission of the church, PHP works in partnership with programs that address hunger and its causes in the United States and around the world in five program areas as described in the Common Affirmation on Global Hunger. Supported by the annual offering, One Great Hour of Sharing, PHP supports projects in five program areas: direct food relief, development assistance, education and interpretation, public policy, and lifestyle integrity.
